An unknown photographer took this photograph at the corner of South Second Street and West State Street, circa 1895. At that time, State Street was known as Railroad Street. Both State and Second Streets had unpaved, dirt surfaces. The Hardy Machine Company building can be seen in the
background across the B&O Railroad tracks. The house on the east side of Second Street is no longer standing.

This circa 1900 photograph, shows the second floor interior of the Hardy Machine Company building on North Second Street. The Hardy Machine Company produced valves and other equipment for the oil fields in southern Wood County.
