Scarbrough Pharmacy closing in Downtown NB

The scene will be changing again in Downtown NB!

What comes as a bit of a blow, amid some recent positive activity in Downtown North Baltimore, is the impending closing of the Scarbrough Pharmacy by the end of June.

Employees at the North Main Street store that has been home to a pharmacy and general merchandise (formerly 5 and dime) for over 60 years, were told by owner Deen Scarbrough, that the pharmacy was being sold to the local Great Scot store, on East Briar Hill Road (aka Deshler Road and/or State Route 18).

Bree-Ann Rybka (above), a Pharmacy Technician, said that the move should be complete in the early summer. She also said that the merchandise and fixtures in the store will be moved to the other two Scarbrough locations in Deshler and Leipsic. She was not aware of Scarbrough's other plans for the property, which he owns.

As far as the move to the Great Scot (above), signs were posted, inside that location, over the weekend saying, "coming soon - your new pharmacy". There was remodeling going on in the "office area" of the store. The local managers Dan Cuevas and Gary Ossman could not comment, referring questions to the corporate offices. Messages left there, have been responded to.

Many changes have occurred over the years in the southwestern block at North Main and Broadway. This will also mark the end of a "5 and dime" (variety store) being located in Downtown North Baltimore.
