| The Library to begin using new software for check-out and catalog searches Posting Date: 05/17/2012 |
The North Baltimore Public Library announced that there will be an update to
the check-out and catalog software that may interrupt patron service. The
update process will begin May 21st and last until the second week of June.
The update will improve the system that holds patron information, checks
books in and out, places reserves and searches the library catalog.
Connie Phillips, Library Director said, "The North Baltimore Public
Library, along with all other libraries within the SEO consortium, is being
upgraded to this new software system, called Symphony, for check-out,
cataloging, and patron catalog searches.
It's expected that Symphony will provide an easier to use and more
customizable, efficient, and intuitive platform on which both patrons and
staff alike can access and use the library's collection.
With these improvements, however, come changes and adjustments; The Library
staff thanks our patrons, in advance, for your understanding and patience during
this transition."
Starting May 21st, the library asks that all patrons bring their library
cards to check out materials or to use the computers. The Library staff will
be unable to check for patrons cards. If you do not have your card, you
will be unable to check-out any materials or use the public access
computers.
The Library also will be unable to add new items to the collection at this
time as well.
As of May 30, the on-line Library catalog will not be available for
patrons or staff. The Library will be unable to issue new library cards or
renew library items. Patrons will be unable to request items through SEO or
through Interlibrary Loan and will be unable to access online accounts.
After May 30th, patrons will be unable to access their saved lists on
their online accounts. They are encouraged to print or e-mail their list so
they do not lose their information.
The Library system will be out of service completely June 4, 5 and 6. At
this time, patrons will be able to only check out and will be unable to
return any items. Any items already checked out will not accrue late fees
for this period. Due dates have already been extended a week during this
time and no items will be due during this week.
There may be additional service interruptions during the first two weeks
of June. We hope that all normal library services will be reinstated no
later than the second week of June.
