The New Riegel Lady Jackets came to the Jungle at the new North Baltimore High School expecting a tough game, and they got it. But, they also found a double order of ribs out in 3-point land, as the 19th ranked team hit 6 of 9, to wipe NB, like a wet wash cloth, 64 - 41.
Coach Frost said, "We got off to a good start against the state ranked Blue Jackets and were right in the game heading into the 2nd quarter. But, we made some mistakes and the New Riegel girls made some plays and when they got the momentum, things went downhill." NB was down just 18 - 14 after the 1st quarter.
But NR got extra sauce in the 2nd period, jumping to a 39 - 22 lead at the half. Frost continued, "They shot the ball extremely well, better than their normal percentages. But we left them too open, too often. Coming into the game they had only attempted 86 three-pointers, making just 22 (26%). But tonight they were able to make 6 of 9 from behind the arc (67%). Our girls gave it all they had, we just weren't as sharp as we needed to be. "
Just like everyone else around, the cold and flu has hit NBHS, as Frost added, "It's been a tough week to prepare, as over half of our team has been sick this week. And we needed to be at our best to pull this one off." But, our ladies didn't end up with any sauce on their fries, and have to look ahead to the next challenge.
On Saturday, NB will face 20th ranked McComb in the Jungle, as it doesn't get any easier, with the talented Lady Panthers and the rest of the MAL, with 4 teams in the top 20 in the state.
Frost concluded, "We have to get healthy, and find a way to perform our best in just a few short days."
Olivia Frost led NB with 14 points, Ricci Emahiser 9, Reagen Fleckner added 7, Megan Wright 4, and with 2 points each were Morgan Schloemp, Lacey Trumbull and Cheyenne Hernandez. Courtney Bretz had one point.
Emahiser grabbed 6 rebounds and Frost 5. Wright had 7 steals and 4 assists.
The Junior Varsity also fell to the Lady Jackets 40 - 26. Scoring for NB were Lindsay Davis 4, Emma Rister 4, Cheyenne Hernandez 4, Lacey Trumbull 4, Maddie Ray 5 and Morgan Okuley 3.

Editor's note: For those who may be wondering about some of the odd vernacular or analogies used in describing various points from the game, these references are regarding the New Riegel Cafe, where you can get the BEST ribs in the world (in MY opinion). So, I apologize if this offends anyone, but sometimes you just have to go out on the edge. And as always... thanks for reading!
