Music students from six counties in Northwest Ohio participated in an honors festival at the Stranahan Theater in Toledo last Sunday.
The first concert featured middle school band, choir, and orchestra students. Eighth grader Andrew Shelton represented North Baltimore on alto saxophone.
The second concert featured high school honors musicians. Allison Beaupry, soprano, represented the North Baltimore choir while Cody Switzer, euphonium, and Brittany Daughenbaugh, clarinet, represented the high school band.
Each ensemble rehearsed one time during the week and all day Saturday. The rehearsals and performances were conducted by highly accomplished high school and collegiate teachers from the area.
Students were selected to the ensembles by recorded audition.

Beth Apple, mother of Andrew Shelton said, "This group sounded like they were professionals; it was truly an amazing musical performance, all with basically an 8 hour practice together the day prior to the performance. Andrew was blessed to have 13 of his family members there, plus Mr Pack! Thank you to Mr. Pack, who is an outstanding leader in our community and school system! Andrew would never have had this opportunity if it wasn't for you!! The NB school system and community should be so very proud & feel so very blessed to have Mr Ben Pack as our band instructor.”
Cody Switzer’s mom, Doreen, added," It was an amazing concert and the guest conductors were very impressed with the students, as well as, the directors in District 1. They had nothing but positive things to say about our part of Ohio.”
