W.W. Knight Nature Preserve

Winter is the time when owls are most vocal, calling to attract mates and defend territories. Learn about which ones live in our backyard, and go on a night hike to listen for one.

Carter Historic Farm

For children 3-6 years of age. Participants will enjoy a short story and a craft. Adult companions must remain with children for this program.


Winter FANS

W.W. Knight Nature Preserve; Educational Classroom

Fun, Art, Nature, and Science (FANS) is what you'll get when you join us to explore nature in the park. Then come inside for icy experiments, a cool art project, and warm refreshments.

Friends of the Wood County Parks Annual Meeting

February 17, 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Thompson Stone Hall

Join your Friends for the 2013 Annual Meeting of the Friends of Wood County Parks. The program for the day will be "Photos in Nature" presented by Mr. Norman Fairman. Mr. Fairman has traveled to Africa and his photos have been published in Birds and Blooms and on the National Geographic website. The event will begin with a light luncheon that will be served at 1:00 pm. Registration is required before 2/14/13.

Killdeer Plains Wildlife Refuge

Meet at Park District Headquarters

Birds like saw-whet owls, long-eared owls, snowy owls, and rough-legged hawks call Ohio their winter paradise! Come on a field trip to seek out these hardy birds in the wilds of central Ohio. Participants should pack a lunch and plan to stop for a quick dinner on the return trip home. Transportation fee is $5, FWCP free.



Ohio President's Day
Monday, February 18, 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Beaver Creek Preserve, Barker Retreat
Ohio has given birth to more presidents than any other state. Learn about them and the connection of one of them to Wood County's history. Warm drinks will be served.
