| Robert D. "Cappy" Rensch, 85 Posting Date: 02/25/2013 | Robert D. "Cappy" Rensch, 85 years old, passed away at home with family on February 23, 2013.
He was born to Herschel and Mary Madalyn (Stevens) Rensch on October 3, 1927 in North Baltimore, Ohio. He joined the Navy during World War II and served from 1945-1947. In 1946 he participated in Operation CrossRoads, the Atomic Bomb Test, at Bikini in the Marshall Islands.
He married Phyllis Smith on December 10, 1949 in Angola, Indiana. He was called back to duty to serve during the Korean War from 1950-1952.
For 30 years he was the head electrician at D.S. Brown in North Baltimore, Ohio. He was the general supervisor of plant engineering at Honeywell in Fostoria, Ohio for 16 years, retiring in 1993. Following his retirement, Cap enjoyed his hobby of woodworking. He made schoolhouse clocks for family members, he hand crafted Victorian woodwork throughout their home, and remodeled old houses. He was a true handyman and could fix anything.
He enjoyed keeping busy by helping people around town. He was an avid Ohio State fan. He was a member of the F.O.E. Aerie 2633 and a life member of the American Legion Post 539 in North Baltimore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his 15 year old daughter Sherry, his brothers: Vaughn Elwood, Gene, his sister Doris (Bill) Ankney, infant brother Jimmy and his long time friend Donn Foltz. Elwood, Cap and Gene all served in the Navy.
He is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 63 years; his brother, Jerry (Margie) Rensch; his daughter Cindy (Gary) Hesse; his son John (Cheri) Rensch; his granddaughters: Emily Hesse, Carrie (Jason) Riffle, Audra (Tyler) Benschoter and Miranda Rensch; his grandson Levi Rensch; his
great-granddaughters: Isabela and Gracey Riffle; his great-grandson Lane Benschoter and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 and the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013, at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore, with Pastor Jon Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in New Maplewood Cemetery, North Baltimore. A luncheon will follow at the Eagles #2633 in North Baltimore.
