from Eric Trout - Cubmaster Pack #372
The Cub Scouts from Pack #372 sanded their cars, painted them to a smooth finish, weighted them perfectly and sent them speeding down the aluminum track for our annual 2013 Pinewood Derby.
Twenty-Nine Cub Scouts presented a wide variety of derby cars at the inspection table with everything from sleek race cars, a tugboat, and even swiss cheese on wheels. After examining the cars in the Pit Area, our “Celebrity Judges” spent a significant amount of time deliberating to determine the Best of Show from each Den. Spectators and parents cheered on the boys as their cars traveled the length of the track bumper and to bumper to cross the electronic finish line for the first time in North Baltimore High School’s New Gymnasium.
The Cub Scouts’ Derby Cars are being displayed in the entry of the North Baltimore Public Library. The boys that placed 1st and 2nd place will be moving on to 2013 Wood District Pinewood Derby on Saturday, March 23rd at the Woodland Mall in Bowling Green, Ohio. All other cars will be returned to the Cub Scouts at our Blue & Gold Ceremony on Sunday March 24th, time yet to be announced, at the American Legion where all of the Cub Scouts will be recognized for this year’s accomplishments.
I would like to offer up a huge thanks to all the den leaders, leader’s spouses, assistant Cubmaster and all of the parents that stepped up when it came time to setup for the Derby, operating the derby, and staying after to help cleanup. Also, thanks to Mrs. North for letting us use the new gymnasium for our event and to Christopher Snyder for helping us when we needed it.
With a good team behind the scenes of every event it makes it that much more enjoyable for all.
I would like to thank everybody that helped make this year’s Pinewood Derby successful and an enjoyable event for our Cub Scouts.

After the visit to the judges table, there was a work area set up for the scouts (and their dads) to make the necessary modifications, to be in compliance with the rules for the competition. (by JP)

There were also judges for things such and style and beauty, with First Federal gals Mallory Chaffin and Diane Ragless setting the example for "purdy"! (by JP)
