I live in Newtown, CT and my six year old daughter, Ava, lost several friends on 12-14-12 during the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. She attended religion class weekly with Catherine and Jessica, she attended art with Olivia and Grace, and she was close friends with Charlotte Bacon since they were 1 years of age.

We have created a foundation called 'Newtown Kindness', which is designed for the sole purpose of fostering and facilitating kindness. We believe that kindness should be a guiding principle of society.

We run a program called the 'Charlotte Bacon Act of Kindness Award' and kids are writing in to honor Charlotte and tell us about their acts of kindness, then we award them with some fantastic prizes. The program is endorsed by Charlotte's parents, Joel and JoAnn. We are receiving great feedback from people stating that it is a chance for them to connect with the tragedy and have an impact on the world.

We are receiving really heartwarming stories and pictures from children everywhere. We generally look at ourselves as a 'goodwill raiser', but we are awarding prizes which include both something for personal fun as well as a 'pay-it-forward' donation in their honor to a charity of their choice.

On behalf of the Newtown Kindness Board of Directors, we are very proud to inform you that Sara Casey was nominated for her actions. Her story came across very heartfelt to our team and we have recognized her during our award announcements. We love the whole story of participation from your school in fact. She is clearly a caring young child who will make this world a better place.
