Troop 315 - Newsletter for March
Posting Date: 03/04/2013

Webelos

We’ll-be-loyal-scouts. Cub scout pack 372 is preparing to cross their webelos II scouts over to Boy Scouts on March 24th. From the numbers Cub master Eric Trout gave me, There are 4 Cubs crossing over. We hope that every one of them continues down the scouting trail. The fun is just beginning. The Norman Rockwell painting (below) best expresses the desires of each Cub Scout to one day become a boy scout. Levi Trout couldn't wait to pose for a real life rendition of the famous painting, “CAN'T WAIT”

Levi Trout set up in a "recreation' of the famous painting.

To DO or Not To Do

I was looking for program ideas the other day utilizing several scout related sites and books to come up with meeting material. As I was searching online for a scouting game, I stumbled across “Mike Rowe” , the host from “Dirty Jobs”, talking to the scouts at the 2010 National Jamboree. He spoke of his days as a scout and the rough and tumble games his troop used to play. One game in particular, “British Bulldog”, was described as, “you know, someone is going to get hurt!” What the heck, let's check it out. “The scouting trail” directions say to have one scout in the middle and the troop races back and forth while the center scout attempts to pick some up and yell, “ 1 – 2- -3 BRITISH BULLDOG”. The caught scout then becomes a bulldog in the center along with the others caught ready, to snatch up another scout.

Here's the question that on your mind. Did anyone get hurt? Oh Yeah - But not bad. Garrett came crashing down with Logan and Noah and Joe crashed into each other. 4 Scouts attempted to pick up Cody Switzer, and they came crashing down. In the end, the scouts loved it in spite of the bumps and bruises. Would we do it again? Pretty sure...

RV Raffle

This is the last month that the RV raffle tickets will be offered. Only 45 of the 500 tickets have been sold and I hope that March does better. Maybe some of the scout parents can help with the raffle. Dennis Miller looked up the value of the RV and valued it at $6000.00. It is now parked at Millstream Credit Union and can be shown, Just stop in at the Depot or Don Miller Insurance.

New Physical info

The question was asked at the Groundhog Dinner, “ Can we use our school athletic physicals towards scouts instead of paying for two each year?”. The answer , YES. Each year before we go to camp, it is required the each scout have an annual physical. We now can staple the athletic physical to ours and fill in the BSA blanks. This should save a lot of problems associated with the two physicals each athlete and scout had to produce.

Are you Tougher than a Boy Scout

Set your recorder, or tune in to the National Geographic channel for a new series coming to television. Monday , March 4th is the first episode of “ Are You Tougher Than A Boy Scout” . Regular average people are challenged to all sorts of scout craft and compete against current Eagle scouts. Get the word out. It sound like a neat program.

Quote from Baden Powell

“ When a Wolf Cub hears the words "Nature study" his first thought is about school collections of dried leaves, but real Nature study means a great deal more than this; it means knowing about everything that is not made by man, but is created by God. “
