Work on the chimney on North Main Street

The North Baltimore Library Board voted to remove the upper 1/3 of the chimney at the Historical House due to some deterioration of the brick. Water from the roof was seeping in and the fascia of the brick was flaking off.

It was decided that removing the upper 1/3 would eliminate any potential danger from crumbling bricks. The rest of the chimney was inspected by a structural engineer and appears to be sound and poses no danger of collapsing.

The Society closed the building during the chimney removal and no one was allowed in during the demolition.

Work was done by Del Heath of Carpentry, Etc.

The Historical House is an elegant Queen Anne style house built in 1879 by Jacob Dirk, one of the prominent founders of the Village of North Baltimore.

The North Baltimore Area Historical Society, Inc. has visiting hours on Tuesday beginning again this month and will also open for special tours. Call the Society for details.
